Symphonic M.D., a skin care brand that launched this week with a retinol and vitamin C hybrid serum as well as a gluconic acid cleanser, also relies on a robust network of medical experts in product development and marketing. That includes a chief medical officer, Dr. David Chernoff, and an accompanying dermatologist advisory board. The business is helmed by general manager and founder Cherry Robinson, who has worked at DCL Skincare, Maison Berger Paris and Schwarzkopf Professional. “Beauty and skincare products that are all-natural or plant-based may have half the shelf life of conventional products,” notes Dr. Turner. The lack of preservatives mean these products don’t last as long, so if you notice any weird changes to their texture, color, or odor, it’s a sign to toss them.
These two positions are often referred to as objectivism and subjectivism. Objectivism is the traditional view, while subjectivism developed more recently in western philosophy. Objectivists hold that beauty is a mind-independent feature of things. On this account, the beauty of a landscape is independent of who perceives it or whether it is perceived at all.

Beauty brands should also expect shoppers to challenge transparency, honesty and accountability in 2023. “Consumers demand more proof behind the claims that brands are making and for them to demonstrate the efficacy behind their products and ingredients,” Neirynck tells me. Marcia Kilgore, the visionary entrepreneur and founder of Beauty Pie, predicts that the industry will begin to embrace “radical fairness”, across everything from price points to product efficacy.

Judgments of beauty differ from the former because they are based on subjective feelings rather than objective perception.
